Dietry Needs

The sharing of refreshments can play an important part in the social life of the nursery as well as reinforcing children's understanding of the importance of healthy eating. The nursery will ensure that:

  • all meals and snacks provided are nutritious, avoiding large quantities of fat, sugar, salt, additives, preservatives and colourings
  • children's medical and personal dietary requirements are respected
  • menus are planned in advance and food offered is fresh, wholesome and balanced
  • a multi-cultural diet is offered to ensure that children from all backgrounds encounter familiar tastes and that all children have the opportunity also to try unfamiliar foods
  • the dietary rules of religious groups and also of vegetarians/vegans are known and met in appropriate ways
  • milk provided for children is whole and pasteurised
  • if a main meal is offered, the following elements are included:
  • Protein for growth. Carbohydrate for energy, Essential minerals and vitamins in raw foods, salads and fruits

Weekly Menus
Week 1     

Breakfast                                  Cereal and toast
Mid morning snack                 Milk, biscuits and fruit

Monday   
Lunch:         Spaghetti Bolognese and garlic bread followed by yoghurt
Tea:             Ham sandwiches followed by fruit   

Tuesday    
Lunch:         Breaded chicken, potato waffles and peas followed by apple pie
Tea:             Cheese & crackers followed by jelly

Wednesday
Lunch:         Shepherds pie and broccoli followed by arctic roll
Tea:             Quiche followed by Chocolate mousse

Thursday   
Lunch:         Flying fish, smiley faces and sweetcorn followed by bananas & ice cream
Tea:             Hot dogs followed by cake

Friday
Lunch:         Bacon, beans and potatoes followed by pineapple upside-down cake
Tea:             Cheese sandwiches followed by fruit

Week 2 

Breakfast:                                  Cereal and toast
Mid morning snack:                 Milk, biscuits and fruit

Monday  
Lunch:         Chilli and rice followed by bananas & custard
Tea:             Tuna sandwiches followed by cake

Tuesday    
Lunch:         Chicken in gravy, roast potatoes and carrots followed by fruit salad
Tea:             Beans on toast followed by yoghurt

Wednesday
Lunch:         Sausage casserole and mash potato followed by peach melba
Tea:             Ham sandwiches followed by fruit

Thursday  
Lunch:          Breaded chicken, potato waffles and peas followed by rhubarb crumble
Tea:              Pizza followed by cake

Friday
Lunch:         Cod, sweetcorn and potato followed by trifle
Tea:             Crumpets followed by arctic roll

Week 3 

Breakfast:                           Cereal and toast
Mid morning snack:          Milk, biscuits and fruit

Monday
Lunch:           Fish fingers, smiley faces and beans followed by rice pudding
Tea:               Cheese spread sandwiches followed by fruit


Tuesday   
 Lunch:         Steak pie, boiled potatoes and peas followed by Angel Delight
Tea:               Hot dogs followed by cake


Wednesday
Lunch:         Chicken curry and rice followed by jam sponge & custard
Tea:              Beef paste sandwiches followed by yoghurt

Thursday  
Lunch:         Lasagne and garlic bread followed by chocolate mousse
Tea:             Cheese & crackers followed by jelly

Friday
Lunch:         Pork mince & gravy, carrots and roast potato followed by cheesecake
Tea:             Turkey sandwiches followed by fruit
